One for the Road
Today we will read the movie “ONE FOR THE ROAD” it is a touching emotional drama that connects the themes of friendship and fleeting moments of life. The film shows the journey of two (2) estranged friends who reunite for a road trip across Thailand directed by Baz Poonpiriya with a duration of 2 hours and 8 minutes starring Natara Nopparatayapon (Aood), and Thanapoc Leetanakachorn (Boss).
The story begin with Aood at a young age when he suffered from Leukemia. That night in the car after calling his friends he started erasing the contacts on his cellphone one by one. He only called to apologize and say goodbye before he died. There are a few contacts left that seem special to him, he feels he needs to see them in person.
In America Boss is seen talking to a beautiful woman at the bar. Boss is a handsome man and many woman are crazy about him. After closing the bar, Boss was shocked when Aood suddenly called. They hadn’t seen each other for a long time and suddenly he contacted him again, surprising him with what happened.
Boss is shocked when Aood tells him that he has Leukemia and that he only has a few hours left. Aood added that he wanted to do something before he died. After hearing his friend’s last wish, Boss decided to grant his friend’s last wish and he was ready to help.
A few days later, When Boss returned to Thailand and went straight to Aood’s house. When he arrived to see how his friend doing he was already bald due to Leukemia. Boss was hurt while Aood was very happy to see that his friend had finally arrived. They were chatting on the balcony at the same time in the middle of the conversation, Boss asked what was Aood’s request.
Aood said he just wanted to return his ex girlfriend Alice‘s belongings because the doctor said she shouldn’t drive a car. He asked Boss for help and Boss followed the request while holding back his tears. Wasting no time the two (2) immediately went to Alice’s dance studio. While traveling they play a recording of Aood’s father’s broadcast because he was a famous music radio announcer during his lifetime.
When they arrive in front of Alice’s dance studio Aood asks Boss to help him convince Alice to meet him because he knows she doesn’t like being asked directly before Boss leaves to meet Alice he tells Boss not to tell Alice about his condition.
Boss finally saw Alice when she found out what Boss was up to with her she refused his request seeing her behavior Boss was annoyed with her. He holds back his anger and says that this might be the last time she will meet Aood and he wants to give him some of time her time to meet Aood.
Fortunately, after persuading Alice she finally agreed. That night Aood and Alice finally met in person. Aood used a wig to hide his bald head. They haven’t talked in a long time in fact when they are in a relationship things got awkward. Aood explained why he met Alice he just wanted to return her bag in the middle of their conversation Alice suddenly started crying because she misses him all the time even though she was in a relationship before but Aood is the only thing in her heart.
Aood was sure that Alice was fine without him and that she would be able to move on with her life before leaving that night they took the time to dance one last time. After Alice and Aodd parted ways. Boss discussed their next plan. When Boss found out that Aood wanted to meet another ex girlfriend of his.
Boss angry because his friend prefers to meet with his ex girlfriend rather than get treatment for his illness. Boss thinks that Aood will probably get better if he gets treatment but Aood says that his father also died of cancer. In his father’s last life Aood regrets that he was not given the opportunity to meet him because he knows how painful it is to leave a loved one. Aood doesn’t want to repeat that mistake and he doesn’t want the people who knew him to be sad when he’s gone.
Seeing him struggling, Boss decided to help but on the condition that when all this was over he would have to undergo chemotherapy treatment Aood agreed and they immediately left.
The next morning Aood and Boss arrived at their destination at a shooting site and Noona was there but because she has a bad day the director scolded her. So they waited for it to finish but Boss had an idea to cause trouble so that Aood could meet Noona because she the shooting was stopped by Boss.
When Noona was inside the church Aood saw her sad he tried to talk to her but her reaction was strange Aood said he just wanted to congratulate her on her achievements. He also apologized for supporting her when they are still dating. He just wants to protect her so he doesn’t go astray.
Then he gave her a trophy as a sign that she was his ex girlfriend. Hearing that sentence Noona remembered the day they broke up. That night in America when Noona auditioned in a room Aood and Boss suddenly interrupted the shooting and then beat the director.
Noona cries as she vents her anger at Aood for always stopping her from achieving her dream of becoming an actress. Aood explained the director was a fraud because there was no official audition conducted alone in a closed room. Unfortunately Noona didn’t want to hear his explanation and in the end because he couldn’t stop she asked to break up. After remembering the memories she emotionally slapped Aood and left to continue the shooting while Aood kept quiet afterwards Noona slapped her.
After that Noona expressed all her emotions on the shooting even though Noona didn’t see him strangely he was grateful to see her one last time even though he failed to apologize to her he was making sure Noona didn’t choose the wrong path.
That night to cheer him up Boss invited him out for a drink at the bar. Seeing his friend teasing the waitress there as a friend Aood asks Boss to stop being a playboy. He wants him to start taking life seriously and find a woman to marry.
In the middle of the conversation the waitress came to take their order when they found out that there was a snake inside the bottle. They are surprised but in the end they drank it. When the drink was finished Aood threw up in the toilet because he drank too much and when he finished Boss was surprised to see Aood vomit blood and consciousness because of the panic Boss rushed him to the hospital. When he saw his best friend lying weak his heart was very painful.
The next morning while waiting for Aood’s results Boss was shocked to see Aood leaving his room. Aood wants to leave the hospital because this time he wants to see his other ex girlfriend Roong. Aood insists on leaving and Boss has no choice but to follow him.
In the middle of the heavy rain, they arrived at Roong’s house but when he was called. Roong said that he was in another country noticing that Roong was lying. Boos peeked through the window and as expected it was inside. He said that Aood had come there just to see her.
He says that this meeting may be the last and h asks for some time to talk to Aood. Roong still refused as she cried and said that she got married too late and had a child. So she doesn’t want to remember his past with Aood. Boss tries to understand her and decides to leave.
That night Aood and Boss went to a hotel when Boss went to in to book a hotel room Aood played the cassette of his father’s last radio broadcast while seeing his father’s picture. He suddenly realized how much his father’s heart was hurting because he didn’t want to see him at the end of his life. He held back his tears as he listened to every word of his father’s last broadcast on the radio.
The next morning they both traveled to Aood’s father’s grave and then they took the father’s ashes and went home. When they crossed the bridge Aood prayed for his father and poured his father’s ashes. After erasing all the contact numbers on the cellphone. Boss’s number was the only one left there in the middle of the fight suddenly Boss wanted to take Aood home to his childhood home.
He hasn’t been home for ten (10) years so Aood agreed and they immediately went there. That night Aood was amazed to learn that Boss was staying at a luxurious hotel but instead of being happy Boss looked sad as he remembered the memories of ten (10) years ago.
He was still in high school when his widowed mother married a rich man so as not to discover that she had a child his mother had to act like they are siblings. When he witnessed his mother taking pictures with his new family he was able to suppress his sadness.
Aood tries to cheer him up by taking him to the bar where he wants to try the drink that Boss made last time. At the hotel bar, Boss made three (3) special drinks that he made based on the story of Aood’s ex girlfriend. After tasting all the drinks Boss asked to make a special drink made by a special woman for Boss.
The woman he often meets Boss at the bar. Boss remembered the day he first met Prim the night after his mother’s wedding he went to the bar to calm his mind. While Prim was drinking her drink she was stunned by her beauty and suddenly fell in love with her from that meeting almost every day they are together.
One night at the bar, Prim tells Boss that she really wants to go to America and learn a lot about being a bar tender. She had a dream to open her own bar ONE FOR THE ROAD Boss supported her dreams and promised to accompany her until her dream came true.
Their relationship grew closer each day until the end even though Prim was older than him. Boss dares to express his feeling and luckily Prim fells the same way for him. The two are officaily dating that day.
The next afternoon at the beach Boss tells Prim that her mother wants him to study to America while Boss cries and expresses all the disappointment he feels. He is thought to be an abandoned child since her mother married a rich man. His life has been rich in wealth but deep down he is suffering.
Prim tries to comfort him and tells him to take a chance as it is a good opportunity instead of suffering. Prim says that she has enough saving to go to America so she wants them both to move and live in America because of this Boss is relieved.
Presently Boss asks why Aood is suddenly taking about Prim. Aood explained his true purpose in telling Boss that he went to Thailand not only to ask for help also wanted to help him see the woman he loved again and then told his was the day he first met Prim.
That night at the restaurant in America, the first time Aood saw Prim come to work he suddenly fell in love with her and even though he knew she had a boyfriend, He didn’t care and tried to get close to her. One night after work Aood told Prim that his friend’s bar was hiring in a bar tender and since he knew Prim had experience as a bar tender he suggested that sh apply there.
Fortunately she was hired. Unfortunately due to doubled work and overtime Prim did not have time for her boyfriend and the relationship between the two became strained. One night Prim was busy serving customers when Boss came to the restaurant to see his girlfriend.
When Boss saw the man teasing Prim he felt annoyed then he showed a transfer of a large amount to Prim’s account then asked where he got that much money by working as a waitress.
Finally Prim is honest that the money is from Boss’s mother because she was able to convince Boss to go to America. Queen cries as she continues apologizing. Forced to get the money so he could go to America. Boss was shocked by what he heard and broke up with Prim because she had no place to live he went to Aood’s apartment and resigned from her job and focused on the bar. On the other hand, Boss is always drunk every night as if he still wants to meet Prim despite his disappointment.
One (1) month later, One night Prim had a bar tender competition Aood was getting ready he dared to express his feelings but Prim rejected it even though he and Boss are separated from the bottom of her heart she still love him.
Aood is disappointed with her because he cannot replace Boss in Prim’s heart because she only considers him as Prim’s friend. Aood meet Boss who is angry because he feels that Boss is not worthy of a woman like Prim. he lied here saying that Prim has a new boyfriend when Boss heard this he got even more angry and left while drunk.
At first Aood was happy to see Boss frustrated but when he saw Boss being beaten by the people at the station he felt sorry for him and rushes to help. Since that incident the two became friends and even Boss invited Aood to live in his apartment but as time went by Boss still hasn’t forgotten Prim’s change, He often changes girls and almost every day is getting drunk as a friend he fells guilty for what he did.
He ruined his friend’s life but even though he really wanted to be honest and tell Boss everything he was afraid that he might be disappointed and hurt. So he was forced to keep the secret. After hearing all of Aood’s confessions Boss was really disappointed. He didn’t expect that the person he considered his best friend would try to steal the girl he loved so much. Aood apologized and gave Prim’s new address. Prim returned to Bangkok hoping to see Boss but to dismay Boss told Aood to leave and not to see him again.
That same night, Back to America three (3) months ago when Boss serving his customer his mother appeared to him to give him a cellphone that Aood had left and told him that Aood had died. Boss was surprised while holding back the pain.
In the middle of the conversation while looking at her son, The mother asked for forgiveness for all their sins in the past. After that his mother said goodbye and left. Boss was left in shock because his friend died without him by his side. That night Boss decided to return to Thailand.
While going to the airport in a taxi, He played a voice recording on the cellphone that his mother gave him. In the recording he heard Aood’s last message. He thanked Boss for being his best friend. He also hopes that Boss will be happy to see prim.
The morning, after arriving in Thailand Boss went straight to Prim’s bar. When Prim saw the man he loved so much she tried to hold back her tears. Boss said he wanted to order a special drink that he usually serve for him.
