The Roundup
Today we will read the story of the police who were sent to Vietnam to get the surrendered suspect that they had been looking for a long time but he discovered that there was a gruesome murder of their fellow tourists in the country. This film is the Korean action film released in 2022 title “THE ROUNDUP” directed by Lee Sang-Yong with a length of 1 hour and 46 minutes starring Ma Dong-seok (Ma Seok-do), Son Suk-ku (Kang Hae-sang) and Choi Gwi-hwa (Jeon Il-man).
In South Korea where crime is rampant, South East Asia is one that hides criminals and perpetuates crimes against their won race. Vietnam is on of the hideouts of criminals where businessman Choi Yong-gi who was looking to build his business was victimized by Kang Hae-sang‘s group whose job was to kidnap fellow Koreans to make money.
Meanwhile, In South Korea a man was taken hostage and who was forcibly weaned by the police. Detective came to try to stop it but they did nothing. A m detective who is known for being brutal named Ma Seok-do arrived there while his colleague was weaning the suspect he passed behind him but he didn’t make any noise an purpose. He tried to talk to the suspect but he threw a knife a him, He also chose to be calm but the man rushed at him and knocked him down and his colleagues saved the hostage and he was in the news for the brutal arrest.
However, his companions were having fun with what happened. Their Captain Jeon Il-man was not happy about what happened because their head scolded him when he was about to talk to Seok-do the Captain stopped him and he had to go to Vietnam to pick up a surrendered criminal who was hiding there.
His colleagues wanted to come along but the Captain did not agree because he needed someone who could speak English and that was him but when they arrived in Vietnam they were stopped at the airport because the truth is that Il-man is not good at English. Later, Park Chang-soo a South Korea Consulate officer in Vietnam came to pick them up. They also wen out to have fun but Seok-do saw some gangsters of their countrymen’s carrying contraband but they were not allowed to hunt because it was none of them tourist fiction.
Later at the consulate office Seok-do saw that there were many cases of their missing countrymen and he also wondered why the criminal surrendered. He said he just felt guilt which was unbelievable. Seok-do personally finds out the reason for her surrender but refuses to speak. They forced him to confess until he spoke that his colleague tried to kill him as the detectives knew that the (3) three of them were always together.
When they found out the address they immediately went to the place. The door of the house was locked but Seok-do broke it. Upon entering they discovered the criminal dead and suspected a murderer. They went back to the prisoner to find out the truth but the consulate officer stopped Seok-do from seeing because they were going to get into trouble because that’s when he intended to release the prisoner but the man refused as if he was scared as if he was hiding something.
In the end, He also admitted the fact that they had kidnapped someone with the name Kang Hae-Sang. He told what happened that while they were leaving there was a misunderstanding between their group and Hae-sang because of what happened the businessman escaped. They were kidnapped and chased across the graas. When they caught Choi Yong-gi he offered them a large amount of money that was hidden in his hotel. The conversation would have been fine but when Hae-sang arrived he killed the business man wantonly.
Their colleague didn’t like what he did but Hae-sang also killed him so they chose to remain silent and obey what was ordered. Hae-sang’s men also got the businessman’s money from his hotel but he is not satisfied yet before they can bury the corpse he dismembers it to ask for ransom from the from the businessman’s family.
(2) two days after they getting the money, he and his partner ran away but he felt that someone was following him and he suspected that Hae-sang was trying to kill him. This is why he surrenders and begs to be sent back to Korea but before returning to Korea Seok-do wants to find Choi Yong-gi’s body.
The Consulate officer vehemently opposed it because it would only be a big problem for them but the Captain agreed with Seo-do. The next day Seok-do also called his colleagues in Korea to find out if there was a report on the disappearance of Choi-Yong-gi and information about Hae-sang then they go the address given by the prisoner but the house is locked.
When Seok-do was about to break down the door, The consulate officer stopped him because what he was doing was illegal and could harm them but Seok-do didn’t give up and continued to break down the door they they dug around to find the body. It wasn’t long before they found him and found out he wasn’t alone.
Everyone is surprised by the discovered and Seok-do calls his acquaintance in Vietnam to gather information on Hae-sang. He found out that the local gang led by a man named Rako was also looking for him and suddenly the Chief od the local police arrives furious because they had done somethin out of his tourist fiction. Il-man tries to arue that they did the right thing but Seok-do notices his men and stops the Captain.
Meanwhile, The gang has foun Hae-sang’s place but he is not ther except they found his hidden money. Seok-do and they went to the local gangster’s address but when he found out the leader of those there he fought with them. He knocked down the gangsters one by one he also faced the leader who he immediately knocked down he pulled out a gun but quickly Seok-do grabbed it and threatened to shoot everyone there if they acted badly.
After he told Rako the reason why there were looking for Hae-sang. He said that someone paid them to come all the way from South Korea to look for him, They included Rako’s staff who knew the area while on the way they found out from Korea that Choi Yong-gi’s father was a big businessman but he didn’t report anything about the missing son.
In another scene Hae-sang had just returned to his place where the gang from Korea was waiting to knocked him down but Hae-sang realized that before entering the house. One of their colleagues was killed inside which surprised the all. The gand and Hae-sang together with one of his men brutally killed each other but they did not open up until thy were able to knock them all down and he found out that the money he kep was missing.
Hae-sang confesses to the leader of the gang and tells him Choi Yong-gi’s father ordered them then he called Mr.Choi. The old man was disappointed that he was still alive. Mr.Choi is very angry that he killed his son and Hae-sang wants to get the money back and threatens to go to Korea.
Later when Seok-do arrived at the place. They were shocked to see the dead body scattered inside the house. The Captain was also attacked where Hae-sang was still there when Seok-do heard what happened he stopped him but two criminals rushed him but the two did not work with his strength. Il-man also fired gun to run away but the detective stopped him but because of his staff the criminal managed to escaped but he was able to put his colleague to sleep.
The Captain was immediately rushed to the hospital because Seok-do also found out that Hae-sang will face various charges for kidnapping and killing tourists. Their Chief also sends them home because of the mess they made in Vietnam. The Consulate officer also stops them but Seok-do doesn’t want to agree because he wants to catch the criminal first even the Captain agrees with him.
Seok-do comes up with a way to get into Hae-sang’s colleague’s room which is locked by the police. He tells her that what he did will only get him killed there and he agrees to reveal Hae-sang’s whereabouts and he will bring him back to Korea. The Vietnamese authorities are now deporting them because of the trouble they caused. Seok-do arrives agreeing to go home because he now knows where the criminal is.
Arriving in Korea, Seok-do immediately went to the former gangster Jang Isu who is now running an illegal tour. he didn’t want to be with him so he threatened to destroy his office. Jang Isu did nothing for fear that they got information from the so-called Captain One Eye that an illegal ship had arrived at the port of Gyeongpo from China. They immediately had all the CCTV footage taken in the area for surveillance.
At night at the staion, the detectives go through copies of the CCTV one by one until they find the suspicious person. When Seok-do zooms in on the photo, Seok-do confirms that Hae-sang is indeed in Korea. Mr.Choi also found out that the person who killed the son already in the country. He asked the staff to find him alive or dead and added staff who came from other countries for his security.
Meanwhile the detectives visited Choi Yong-gi’s hill his mother Mrs.Kim thanked him for returning her son’s body to them. After that Seok-do left his two colleagues were left to watch over there. He goes to find the car that Hae-sang used but they have no clue of where it is now.
At the wake while Mr.Choi was leaving they didn’t know that Hae-sang was with them in the elevator. He introduced himself to then and was killed by Mr.Choi’s men he tries to help but in vain Hae-sang also kills his men inside the elevator.
In the parking lot Mr.Choi also killed the two criminals who were hired by Hae-sang to carry out his evil plan with the businessman. The detective saw the abduction of Mr.Choi on CCTV and immediately alerted his colleague to stop him but they were unable to catch him.
Later at the station they watched the video that was sent to Mrs.Kim asking for ransom for her husband’s life. The detectives also learned that Hae-sang had other criminal accomplices brother who had come from the Philippines in hiding. They studied the video footage but could not confirm the location.
They also had no other leads on the suspects so Mrs.Kim cooperated with the police. They plan to turn the ransom payment into cash so they can trace their whereabouts. Then the criminal talked to Mrs.Kim for the transaction with courage but she also couldn’t be strong in the end because of what happened to the family.
It is also not possible for the police to drive for Mrs.Kim in the delivery of money. Seok-do can think of making Jang Isu a driver who is currently defrauding people again. Meanwhile Hae-sang prepares another vehicle for Captain one-eye for their escape after getting the money.
The next day, all the police are ready to catch the criminals. While Jang Isu complains about what the police are asking him to do. Which he is really being forced to do. They immediately left to go to the exchange place. The police followed them until the brothers came out while the other police were currently looking for Hae-sang’s possible location.
When they got stuck in traffic. The police saw the brothers but didn’t recognize him because he was pretending to be a delivery truck. Hae-sang suddenly called Mrs.Kim that she needed to make a U-turn. They couldn’t do anything but go back because the police position was confused to they are not noticeable.
Hae-sang wants to U-turn again whom she has been wondering about but they have no choice bu to follow to save her husbands. Meanwhile, their detective colleague found the place from the video footage. The car used was seen but Mr.Choi was not there.
The detective entered the building to search until he finally found Mr.Choi. When the detective was about to bring him out Hae-sang came and tried to kill him but the other policemen are also coming causing the criminal to run away and he survived.
When the Captain arrive late they saw that the colleague was seriously injured after Hae-sang escaped. He made the colleagues back off their plan because he suspected that the police are following them. The brothers don’t want to believe because they didn’t see anything and to get the money.
Seok-do calls Jang Isu to inform Mrs.Kim that her husband is safe and she also informs that the criminals are following them and plants to do something to catch them but the brothers have already blocked their car. The police would have surrounded it but Jang Isu tried to escaped and entered the parking lot of a mall.
The criminal also chased them inside but they collided when Jang Isu was about to run away. Jang Isu was thinking of nothing but the money that the criminal might steal. Mrs.Kim entered the mall while Jang Isu ran away with the money but the criminal got into his car.
The detective stops him and almost runs him over and knocks out the criminal but after that Jang Isu takes the money and runs away. Other detectives also came to the mall to find Mrs.Kim the criminal also faced an inexperienced police officer and almost got killed but his colleague came and they helped him catch him.
Inside the mall, Mrs.Kim was being chased by another criminal when he caught her Seok-do heard the commotion so he stopped him from what he was planning. He even tried to fight him there Seok-do shows his brutality and puts the criminal to sleep. Meanwhile as Jang Isu is about to run away someone suddenly bumped into him Hae-sang the perpetrator.
He immdiately ran away with the money and took a taxi so Hae-sang didn’t catch him anymore and turned his anger on the traffic enforcer. Jang Isu is very happy after gettin the money that will change his life. He intended to escape to another country with the help of Captain one eye but Hae-sang came there and overheard the conversation.
When the captain’s one eye staff came to pick it up. Hae-sang came, Jang Isu was brave but when he took out the ax He voluntarily gave up the suitcase full of money. Hae-sang then boarded a bus to escape. Jang Isu followed it to scout. The criminal who thought he was about to escaped successfully left but when he arrived at the tunnel the bus he was riding was stopped.
Detective Seok-do arrived and gets all the passengers off the bus to arrest the criminal after everyone gets off the two face a fierce fight where the entire bus is almost destroyed by them even though Hae-sang really has no fight with the detective continues he’s still going along and seems tireless because he doesn’t want to stop Seok-do throws him in front of the bus but when he catches him the criminal is still fighting so the detective calms him down.
Then the police colleagues also arrives the Captain was shocked by Seok-do’d destruction f the bus and the car. In the end Seok-do called Jang Isu to thank him for what he did after the two of them planned everything to catch the criminal Kang Hae-sang. It also paved the way for Korea and Vietnam to come to an agreement in solving the case of their respective countrymen.
