The Balkan Line
The film we will read today is about the Kosovo War in which the Russian Intelligence conducted a secret operation to capture the airport occupied by Albanian militant group. This film is the Russian Serbian action war film released in 2019 titled “THE BALKAN LINE” directed by Andrey Volgin with a duration of 2 hours and 10 minutes starring Anton Pampushnyy ( Andrey Satalov), Milena Radulvic (Jasna), and Gosha Kutsenko (Bek).
In 1995 in Bosnia, Russia sent a unit led by Andrey to capture a terrible criminal of war who started the war n Bosnia but the situation did not agree with them after one of their comrades received stab wounds. They caught the criminal but lost their companion’s life.
One of Andrey’s men got angry with the criminal bu the NATO officer separated them because they now had him. When Andrey learned form the Russian Intelligence Officer Deputy Bek that NATO also intended to released the war criminal, he did not like it after his colleague died because of this Andrey dropped a criminal in th helicopter which angered the Nato Officer.
There was nothing Bek could do either, so he flew the helicopter when he returned to Russia alone fired Andrey’s entire team for disobeying the order and creating a threat to international relations and will be imprisoned when they return to Russia.
However the war in Bosnia ended but the peace in the Balkans did not last long either. 1998 the Albanians declared independence in Kosovo to prevent. The Kosovo liberation army was sent along with the Serbians until the year 1999 when Nato carried out the bombing of Yugoslavia even though it was not approved by the UN nation.
The same year in Russia, the Russian General met with Bek due to the Nato bombing that forced the Serbian troops to retreat and that Kosovo was sure to be captured by rebel Albanians. The General gave him a secret mission to take control of the airport in Pristina until their troops arrived before Nato could take the place.
When asked if there is someone Bek wants to be with Andrey’s former people who are now in Yugoslavia but he doesn’t want to be with Andrey because he doesn’t trust him anymore. Meanwhile after what happened before Andrey and his colleagues were unable to return to Russia and moved from the place.
One day when he was going to pick up the passport, the local police came because someone he knew was illegal smuggler. Chief Milik also investigated him and found out that he was a former military man. He was given the option of being deported to Russia or cooperating with them.
In the another scene, Jasna sent to Kosovo to help the local hospital there but it turns out that she is planning to resign from the job because she can’t stand the sight anymore. A fellow doctor told her that doing something is better than doing nothing to help those in need.
Bek has also started looking for the mission while in Russia the General calls the Colonel to prepare his entire troops to go to Pristina Kosovo to capture the airpirt before Nato gets ahead. In Kosovo, militant groups sow terror where villages are massacred one by one.
The law enforcers are also unopposed because there are only a few of them left after their troops retreated. The Chief showed Andrey the airport that was captured by the militant group of Albanians led by Smuk after the Serbian army retreated. Andrey was encouraged by Cheif to help them but he hesitated because they couldn’t do it on their own.
Later, Bek also found the team he has created one by one for the secret mission. In return for which they accepted they could return to Russia. Meanwhile the Police Chief received information that the rebels were planning to block the evacuation of the village. They immediately went to where the militant group block the civilian convoy.
They would have tried to fought but there was a sniper in the vicinity. When the police arrived at the area one of the police did not want to wait and wanted to immediately rush to avenge the killing of his relatives. Fortunately Andrey saved him from the sniper but because of this the opponents were alarmed.
They got into a fight with the group that took the civilian hostage but with Andrey’s skills he killed them. After the successful raid the Chief thanked Andrey and gave him an address for his passport. Bek is currently meeting with the entire team to plan the operation.
He said that if they go with him they will be able to return to the army and more than anything they will be able to go home to their respective families in Russia. When Andrey was on his way back to where he was staying he met Jasna at the bus station who was also his bus. Later, while they were traveling the toy of the child next to them fell when Andrey picked it up, suddenly the rebels shot them.
Everyone was taken off the bus to be inspected by the militant leader Smuk. After seeing Andrey’s passport they put him to sleep and then checked the other passenger. When he saw the priest he killed him, Jasna tried to fight to save the boy but the militants intended to exploit him.
That’s when Andrey woke up and took the leader of the group captive and killed his men to their surprised. He lowered their weapons and made all the passengers board the bus and then immediately fled. They went to the hospital to treat the wounded. There Jasna met the doctor who would be with her at the local hospital.
Andrey also borrowed a usable car to take the priest’s body to the monastery and took Jasna with the doctor to get changed. When Andrey was about to deliver the priest Jasna went with him. The two traveled silently until they reached the monastery and gave the body of the priest to his fellow priest as well as his left equipment.
The two left immediately before night fell while Jasna thanked Andrey for saving her life on the way back and he also went with her. In the meantime the rebels attacked the police station to find someone who helped their Russian when the Chief refused to speak where he was, Smuk killed the him as a warning to all who were fighting them and the rest of the police immediately informed him of the killing of the Chief by Andrey.
Later on at the hospital Smuk’s group easily abducted Jasna after the doctor found out the bad activities of the militant group but the doctor did not like their killing of the Chief of Police. Smuk got angry and didn’t want to be told what to do because he also killed the doctors.
The militant group is now holding Jasna along with their other captives. Smuk informs him of the Russian’s whereabouts but she doesn’t want to talk. The militant said he was going to kill the children so Jasna was forced to speak. After he gets information he kills all the captives inside except Jasna.
Bek’s group was starting the mission to capture the airport from the militants and the area was easily entered because there were only few remaining enemies on guard. Russian troops have also started to go to Pristina to capture the airport. Andry was there outside the airport with the remaining two policemen to avenge the killing of the Chief.
Bek’s group continues to search the airport and finds the controlled ones left there while Smuk’s convoy is in fight no one answering him from the airport. He sent a staff back to find out what was happening there. Andrey also started entering the airport with two policemen.
Two of his old mean were able to fight someone who also attacked him but he was very surprised to see his former comrade. He immediately separated his former companion to find put that he was with two policemen. Bek was surprised to see Andrey in an unexpected place and found out what he was doing there.
He tells them their plan is also surprised to see his old team but Bek wants them out of the place. The men sent by Smuk came outside Vera was waiting for the the sniper of the group. The enemy also saw it and opened fire. Bek finished them quietly but Vera was hit and the enemy escaped who was sure to call of help.
Bek had sent Andrey and his colleague together when they continued to search the airport where they found what had been left behind by militants. Andrey also sees Jasna who wonders how she got there. Jasna narrated what happened to her and apologized for pointing out to the militant group where he was staying.
The Russian convoy is still on the way Bek informed the General of their situation after capturing the airport from the militant group that they are in danger of being attacked there but the convoy will arrive tomorrow morning so they must first protect it as much as they can. Bek immediately gathered all his colleagues in what he discussed with the General and prepared everything because the militant groups will surely return to take back the airport from them.
While getting ready, Vera remember her daughter who hasn’t been seen for a long time after not being able to return to Russia. Adrey also begs Bek to allow Jasna to hide in the control room with him. After a while, when everyone was ready a boy came to observe the place sent by the enemy to warn them that they would die here.
It also felt as soon as Jasna saw it pass by. The girl children still alive after being saved. Jasna went to Andrey to bring medicine so he could use it later after being injured. Andrey hid him in the control room and gave him a gun to use if needed. It turns out that Jasna has feelings for Andrey after he saved her life.
Later, the Russian troops arrived in Yugoslavia the situation at the airport is still quiet. Where everyone is really preparing. When it got dark the big convoy of the militant group led by Smuk arrived. The group split into two so everyone immediately got ready to start. When they rushed Bek gave the signal for the whole team then blew up the enemies car and rained bullets with machine guns.
The militant groups continued to advance but they had someone ready to stop them which surprised the opponents because the rebel group could not easily approach the airport after it was well prepared. Next, Smuk attacked the second group in reversed according to their plan as he intended to move the other side.
When the police saw his car, he tried to stop the war criminal but an enemy was waiting and hit him. Vera was able to kill the enemies but Smuk had already crossed to the other side. His people rushed at the same time because they broke a defense in the building but with the help of the other comrades they were also able to stop it.
Girey immediately helped the policeman who was hit while his colleagues defended them but Smuk was planning something again that they surely couldn’t avoid. The children also his in the control room and Jasna saw him there while everyone survived the attacks so far.
Meanwhile, the people in Kosovo are very happy of Russian troops as their ally in the war against the rebel Albanians. Back at the airport all of a sudden everyone around felt quiet as the militants were getting ready to use their weapons. Jasna also went to help the girl. After a while the enemies started flying mortars in their direction which shocked everyone with the loud explosions because of this the commander made everyone retreat to the control tower because they couldn’t handle it while Vera protected her colleagues but the enemy had changed where they are.
Girey was also badly wounded when he was hit by a mortar explosion so he did not join the escape because he could not handle it anymore. When the policeman left he lost his life while the group retreated were blasted by the enemies RPG. Vera manages to kill the weapon wielder but Smuk sees where it is and hits it.
Vera survived the explosion but was stuck there when the news that Russian troops were in Kosovo prompted the US to call on the Russian president to expel them from there. However the General did not agree with the president and was ready to resign in disobedience.
The convoy was still halted according to the order of the higher up but it was close to the airport of Pristina so the Colonel decided to continue. Meanwhile, it was still difficult for everyone to move because of the constant mortar attack on them. Their colleague has already acted to stop the mortar unit alone which the commander would not have agreed to.
Using a gas truck he rushed alone in the direction of the mortars. The enemies prevented him from getting closer but Bek also helped him to protect him but he was hit by a bullet. However he did not stop and went straight to the mortars until it exploded all because Smuk’s staff is just a number.
As the group continued to retreat a policeman was left behind because he was also seriously injured. Andrey was forced to leave him but he gave the policeman a weapon to continue a fighting. The police stopped from getting close with Bek as the last man while the colleagues were retreating but Smuk saw Andrey running so he was hit by a gun, he tried to fight but he ran out of bullets.
Luckily he was saved by his colleague which angered Smuk and made all the staff rush. Jasna also came out when she saw Andrey to help her but Smuk tried to kill her but Andrey caught the bullet because his condition is now serious. Bek took a vehicle to rescue his comrades the militants shot at him but he managed to save his comrades and fled to the control center to hide but the policeman left alone in a serious condition. Smuk mercilessly kept him in cutting him while his colleague saw that he was also badly injured.
After Bek’s group escaped they only had four bullets left. Smuk’s group went there and made them surrender within two minutes but they had no intentions of capturing their lives as soldiers they just planned to kill themselves with the remaining bullets so that they would not be captured by the rebels.
Vera had already presented that she would be the first but before the trigger could pulled. Smuk’s people ran away with the arrival of the Russian troops. The colleague stooped Bek immediately because they were safe. Smuk intended to run away when he was alone there but before he could do so he was killed by the surviving policeman.
When the Russian convoy arrived they rescued Jasna with a child and they did not find anyone else there after Bek’s team left because there mission was over because of Russian’s capture of the airport. They stopped Nato ally who was planning to land the Bristish convoy also did nothing in Russia.
Yeaes passed and Kosovo finally gained independence. A year after the battle at the airport. Jasna visited the monastery again. Andrey went there but he had no intention of showing up. His friend forced him to get out of the car and finally the two met again to continue their interrupted love.
